easyDITA 18.1 Release Details

easyDITA 18.1 brings some new and exciting enhancements to our source editor and linking and reuse interfaces.

Official Release Date

April 26th, 2019

New Source Editor

The updated and enhanced source editor includes:

  • Opening and closing tag highlights

  • Highlighting on the string of text where your cursor is

  • The ability to collapse lines of DITA markup, which is especially helpful in long topics

The new in-source searching capabilities include:
  • Case-match search
  • Whole word match search

  • Regular expression search

  • Find and replace for both partial and full strings

New Linking and Reuse Interfaces

The updated and streamlined linking and reuse interfaces are built to provides users with a more intuitive and efficient way in search content and create references.

When you use keyboard shortcuts to insert a conkeyref or keyref, the reuse interface will open with the keys drop-down opened and a list of keys showing.

Note: For the keys to populate, there must be a context map set in easyDITA. Once there is, you can start typing a key and the list will update based on your text entry.

You can also use this interface to create new keys by clicking Add New Key. Clicking this opens a form so you can fill in details for key creation.

From the reuse interface, if you want to insert a conref, click the drop-down for reuse type and select Conref Content. When you do this, the list of keys goes away, and you can search for and select the bit of content you want to reference.

Similarly, you can use the keyboard shortcut or the link icon in the toolbar to open the linking interface.

By default, the drop-down for link-type is set to create an cross-reference to "A File in easyDITA." If you want to insert another type of link, click the drop-down to select from the other options, which are:
  • A key reference to a file

  • A link to an element in the current file you're working on

  • A link to a website or PDF

Content Library

Content Library

Added

  • Now you can add metadata to a file even when there's a collaborative lock on it.

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug so that files linking to themselves aren't prevented from being moved to the Trash bin.

  • Duplicating a topic now duplicates the file first, and then moves it to the target location to prevent links from breaking instead of not doing that.

  • Fixed an issue so the Owner field is visible in the Bulk Change interfacen't hiding anymore, which lets you make bulk changes to file owners.

  • Happily, recently edited maps are showing up in the Recent tab in the content library.

  • Added the Create new window so it includes the ability to assign attributes on file creation.

Topic Editor

Topic Editor

Added

  • Added the "Where Used" recycle icon in the editor for content that's reused. Clicking on the icon will show a list of files that reference that content. Clicking on a linked file opens that file in a new browser tab.

Enhanced

  • Made definition lists super-stylish and changed the layout to show definitions in the form of a list instead of a table.

Fixes

  • Now when you press Enter when you have text highlighted, the text gets deleted and splits the inline element.

  • Fixed an issue so that if you set an image width in inches the image doesn't disappear from the editor.

  • We patched up some odd copy and pasting behaviors in the editor.

  • Now when you're editing in Firefox, you can press the ESC key until your heart is content without unintentionally inserting a question mark icon.

  • Fixed a bug in the editor so you don't have to click outside of variable content to continue writing.

  • A bug was covering up the popular subscript and superscript buttons in the text editing toolbar. We fixed that.

  • Fixed a bug so that the list item buttons either insert a new list or wrap, depending on your cursor's context.

  • Squashed a bug that kept images from showing up when they're referenced by a content-reference (conref) in a topic.

  • Fixed a cursor issue so that you can use the arrow keys to move your cursor character by character through an <xref>.

  • Previously, you couldn't add unrecognized words in <xref> link text to the spell check dictionary. We fixed that.

  • The bottom row of the Table Properties menu wasn't visible, but we've made it visible again.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented you from being able to place your cursor in an <xref> element.

  • Fixed the Attributes tab so that it shows element attributes, which is important.

  • Sprayed Bug-Be-Gone-code on a bug that kept you from inserting a <keyref> or <conkeyref> into a topic <prolog> element.

Assignments Interface
